WTH?!?? Yep. It’s a Yummy-Licious, HEALTHY meal!! (^_^)

I wouldn’t normally post food pics on my page, but I wanted to show a friend of mine that eating healthy can be tasty… (and look pretty on a plate as well!)
This is pan seared salmon seasoned with lemon pepper on a bed of brown rice, mixed veggies – string beans, squash, zucchini, & a little bit of red pepper, steamed with some Mrs. Dash. The sauce was made with plain, nonfat Greek yogurt mixed with some horseradish, freshly squeezed lemon, & fresh dill. (This will actually be 2 servings for me. I saved half for another meal). This meal was prepared for two people, and in total, there is probably about 2 teaspoons of olive oil in it total. (Used in the pan with the salmon).

If you wanted to, you could make a salad for starters, but you really have to watch the store bought dressings. They have more fat, sodium, & sugar than you can imagine. Stick to making it homemade. That way you can control the way you eat.

So… Here’s the deal…

As embarrassing as it is to say, I went from a  size 6-8 to oh… anywhere from a 12-16  >_<   (Even when you’re thin, sizing for females totally sucks).  I’m decently proportioned, and  hide it pretty well when dressed “properly”, which sucks, because it’s taken me longer to admit to myself that I really need to make a change.

I can sit here and play the blame game all day long, but I  know my  obesity is all on me…  I’ve never been one for “numbers”  so, I’m guessing that I’ve gained about 10 pounds per year since 2007. That sounds much better than saying “50-pounds”, but it still doesn’t hide the cold, hard facts.

A couple of weeks ago, I was in deep thought about my life, my job, and the other random things that just pop up in the ‘ole noggin from time to time. I had some issues with a home treadmill that was on the fritz, and after shelling out about $500 it’s now in working order.. [[ YAY!! ]]  So I thought… Hmm.. as motivation, I can post all this stuff on Facebook or Tweet my progress, but think I’ll be more accountable to myself if I do this blog thing.

So, last week, as a “birthday present” to myself, for at least the upcoming year, I decided that I  will start posting my random thoughts, progress, recipes I like, quotes,  and (if I can figure it out) how to post motivational pictures that don’t take up the whole page… and other stuff that you may or may not be interested in.  I’m still “getting it together” so all of the sub-menus may not have things in there yet, but I’m working on it… If you have any healthy recipes, please feel free to submit them and I will post them to my page!

I’ll also be happy to answer questions that you might have about health or fitness related questions, but remember, responses are intended as suggestions to be considered for informational purposes only.

Weigh in… [AARRGGGGHHHH!!!!]

So, in order to track progress, I guess I need to have a starting point.  I’ve weighed myself on my fancy-schmancy, “state of the art” digital scale, and actually, I weigh about 4 pounds less than my guesstimate…which is always a good thing.  My depressing measurements are also listed.  Hold on to your hats, friends of mine that I know… this is the cold, hard truth.   If you’re thinking, “OMFG! WTH? Are you SERIOUS?”  – Absolutely. Totally, Unequivocally yes. Sadly my friends, it’s all true.

For the record, I am not choosing a specific number as a goal, as that can be unrealistic. Example: If I do mainly cardio workouts, I might lose weight and get to a “goal weight”, but I am incorporating weights.  Pound for pound, 1 pound of muscle = 1 pound of fat… HOWEVER, muscle mass is more dense than fat, so it takes up less space than 1 pound fat. In case you didn’t know this: Even if you’re sleeping, a pound of muscle burns more fat  than a pound of fat burns in the same time frame.  If you increasing your lean muscle tissue mass, you’re inevitably  helping your body burn more calories.

Ok, so I’ve put this off as long as I can….
